Golf Flexibility - The Magic Bullet For the Senior Golfer

Golf flexibility is the biggest term you hear when the senior golfer is complaining about lack of distance or a sore back.

Why is this?

It's not a secret that with age comes a decline in physical capabilities...especially golf flexibility.

The good news is...the above scenario can be drastically improved with a little bit of effort and consistency.

The biggest and most noticeable change is in backswing range of motion. This can rob you of massive yards off the tee and humiliate you with your golfing buddies.

How many times have you been the shortest hitter off the tee? Be honest now. I know how frustrating that can be and there is a simple solution.

Golf Flexibility!

In this article let's address the backswing.

What is the main cause for an ever-shortening backswing?

Because the golf swing is a rotational movement, it is critical to be able to turn your shoulders at least 90 degrees, while your hips only turn 45 degrees.

This is virtually impossible if you have physical limitations in torso and upper body. While you're ready this article...sit up straight, cross your arms in front of your chest and rotate to the right as far as you can go.

What happened? How far did you go? Since you are seated, this is "true" rotational flexibility.

If your shoulders only turned back a couple of inches, there's your problem with lack of distance of the tee.

Here's a simple stretch you can do right at your computer. Do it right now!

Extend your arms straight out, chest high.
Put your palms together so your fingers are pointing straight out.
Turn as far as you can to the right.
Think of only your shoulders doing the rotating.
Now hold that position for 10-15 seconds.
Come back to center and repeat that a couple of more times.

How easy was that?

You didn't have to do anything. No going to the gym. You didn't even have to get out of your chair.

This is just one simple golf stretch you can do 2-3 times every day that will make a huge difference in your backswing range of motion.

Improving your golf is all about making it simple!

Don't overwhelm yourself with too much information. Give the above stretch a try and watch out what happens next time you play with your golfing buddies.

You'll soon realize the tremendous benefits of golf flexibility!

An Easy Horse Racing System to Evaluate Horses Before You Bet

The process of horse racing handicapping is simply the evaluation of each runner to determine its chances of winning. Once you have an idea, or what we call a "guess-timate" of how likely each runner is to find the winner's circle, then you can start the important part of making money betting on horses. Finding value on the odds board is the goal of serious horse racing handicapping. An easy horse racing system is every horse player's dream.

A simple and easy to use formula will tell you if a runner is a good wager, may be profitable in the long run. Just ask yourself, "If this same race was run ten times or twenty times, how many of those races would each runner win?"

If your answer for horse A is two out of ten times, then he would win about a fifth of the races, so his fair value odds would be 5-1. Once you know that, a look at the odds board will tell you whether he is a good bet at over 5-1 or is overvalued by the crowd and is going off at less than 5-1. I realize that I am simplifying something that is actually very difficult to do, but for the purposes of this short horse racing article, we can't go into depth on the subject of handicapping, an intellectual pursuit that could fill many volumes.

One method that you can use to quickly handicap a race is to break it down to three factors, speed, class, and jockey. Creating a hierarchy, a list of horses starting with the best and going to the worst in each category and then assigning a number for each position is one way to find horses that have an edge. It won't tell you how many times the horse with the best score would win if they raced against each other ten times, but it will tell you which one might win most often.

For instance, taking the two best speed figures in their last three races and adding the figure for those two races together, will give you a number for each horse, assuming that each one has had a race. If you don't play maiden races with first time starters, you won't have the problem of a horse with no past races. Let's say there are five horses in the race and we'll label them from A to E. Their speed figure totals look like this...

A=150, B=145, C=155, D=130, E=148.

Putting them in order from best to worse would give us,

C, A, E, B, D.

Now if we give them a number for their order, it would look like this (since there are five horses, the top number is 5 and the worst of course, is 1).

5 4 3 2 1

C A E B D, so horse C gets 5 points for speed and A gets 4, etc.

To figure class, find the horse who has earned the most money in its last five starts or simply look at the purse in the horse's last race. Any method will work as long as you can identify the horse that raced against the best horses in its last race. In the case of a tie, give each horse the same number in the hierarchy. For instance, if two horses both raced for $50,000 in their last race and that is the top amount, then give each one a 5.

Once again, create a hierarchy with the best receiving a 5 and the worst a 1.

Finally, simply look at the jockey's winning percentage and use that to create a hierarchy.

Your final totals might look something like this...

Speed =

5 4 3 2 1

C A E B D

Class =

5 4 4 2 1

A B E D C

Jockey=

5 4 3 2 1

C D B A E

Now add each horse's total score to find the top horse.

Horse A gets 4 points for speed, 5 points for class, and 2 points for jockey, so it gets a total of 11.

Horse B gets 2 points for speed, 4 points for class, and 3 points for jockey, so it gets a total of 9.

The rest get C=11, D=7, E=8.

Since A and C are tied for 11, they are the top horses. You could bet the one with the best odds, or simply pass the race. This is a very simple system to handicap a horse race and won't make you rich. Wagering on horse races is very risky and this article and system are only meant for entertainment, but it is one easy way to handicap a horse race.

A good way to get your kids to pick up swimming is to give them exposure to swimming as early as possible. It is generally recommended that you introduce them to swimming lessons when your kids are four years of age. This is the age where a child is generally ready to take lessons in different activities. Bringing your kids to swim with their friends is a good thing to do. In many cases just having good company around can be something that can help with getting your kids to enjoy the water. Having group swimming lessons with them can be helpful.

Competitive Swimming - How To Get Started (From a Parents Perspective)

As a parent, I always want to challenge my daughter to stretch and grow beyond what she thinks her limits might be. Competitive swimming is one vehicle that has and will continue to accomplish this goal.

I am not going to waste your time by listing all of the reasons why athletics in general and swimming in particular is beneficial for your child. I assume that if you are reading this that you have already resolved that and swimming is what you want to know more about. When our daughter was 8 years old, we thought it was time to begin to think about some sort of athletic activity.

We choose swimming because our daughter tried out for soccer and had absolutely no interest in it. Wanting her to learn all of the things that sports can teach such as fair play, winning and losing, teamwork, setting and achieving goals, and most importantly, having fun, we decided to check out swimming.

That was all great, but where do we go from here.

To anyone who is new to this sport, things can be somewhat confusing every step of the way. An easy to understand road map would certainly be a big help.

If you are like our family was when we were first starting out, we needed a resource not just to extol the benefits of competitive swimming, but also to provide first hand information on how to get involved and realize the benefits of this great sport.

We needed answers to so many questions, including but not limited too:

*How Do We Choose The Swimming Program That's Right

*How Do We Arrange A Tryout

*How Do We Find The Swim Team That Fits Best

*What Equipment Will We Need

*How Much Swimming Is Enough

*How Do We Enter the Swim Meet

*How Much Will All Of This Cost

We stumbled around, making phone calls, asking friends and neighbors and finally sorted through all of the information that was out there. Finally, through a business associate who's daughter was on a local team, we arranged a tryout and got our daughter going. Then the questions really began.

The whole experience was exciting but there was so much to learn. Everyone kept talking about "Time Standards", and "Meet Entry Forms", and we seemed inundated with all of the new terminology. The veteran parents on the team were a big help in sorting through it all, but we really wished that there was some sort of new swim parents guide.

There are so many great resources about this subject, but trying to do web search after web search can be quite time consuming. Like anything else, a sort of "beginner's guide", from someone who has been through the process would be extremely helpful.

We soon found that one of the most important functions that parents perform for their kid's team is to be a volunteer. Typically, swim teams have only a couple of paid employees and the club is totally dependent on parent volunteers. One of the critical duties is to help raise funds.

With so much to learn and with so much that parents can do, we sat down and made a list of questions that we had needed answers to in the beginning and then tried to answer them. From there we put together a sort of how to guide covering everything discussed in this article, and more.

We realized that a guide written for the new swim parent which was in a straight forward, easy to understand format would be most beneficial to our team, and to the sport in general.

We hope that the information in this article has been helpful and will lead you in the right direction.

Sports Magazines For The Sports Enthusiasts

Sports journalism in dedicated sports magazines offers reports on events like competitions and tournaments and related sports news. There are many sports magazines that have been mocked and called "toy magazines" for showing no concern for the 'serious' topics covered by various news desks. Today, sports coverage has grown in importance, just as the different sports themselves have grown in wealth and influence and a lot of subsequent power and recognition.

Sports journalism in sports magazines is an essential component of the news media organization. Sports journalism in sports magazines includes a sports department that is devoted solely to diligent sports reporting. Some of the world renowned magazines dedicated to sports are Sports Illustrated and Sports Round Up.

The reporters of various sports magazines have a tough time with sports teams from around the world. While some are not always very accommodating with sports journalists, others are known to allow sports reporters into locker rooms for interviews and some extra information. There are also sports teams that provide extensive information support, even if the reporting proves unfavorable to them. There are certain countries where sports coverage is often barely tolerated by the clubs and players.

Sports journalists who work for the various sports magazines are like any other reporters. They too have to find the story rather than simply rely on information that is generated by the sports teams or institution or the dedicated coaching staff. The reporters on sporting events are expected to first and foremost be conversant with the particular game they are covering and the nuances involved. Sports journalists have to verify facts given to them by the teams and organizations they are covering, before getting the content into the sports magazines.

Often, the coaches of the different games and teams and players and even the sports organization management rescind the access credentials of the reporters covering a particular controversy or sporting event. This is done entirely in retaliation for printing accurate, but disparaging information about a team, player, coach or the organization in question.

Today, sports reporters cover extensively sports journalism for professional and intercollegiate sports such as American football, ice hockey, basketball, baseball and football. The sports magazines are segregated to either cater to the target 'reader' group for a particular sport or into sections within that cover different sports and offer better coverage to the sports enthusiasts. The sports magazines are headed by a team of professionals either from the games themselves or avid enthusiasts from around the world, who have followed the games religiously.

Sports magazines all over the world have now become a part of the integrated world online. The online sports magazines are increasing in popularity due to the private and comfortable access to live news and reviews possible because of the internet technology. There are many sports magazines that cater to both, the online and virtual segments successfully.

Football Betting - America's Favorite Sport

Football is America's favorite sport these days, so it should come as no surprise that wagering on football is the most common sport betting activity on the continent. Games in the National Football League, the minor leagues, college, and even some high school games will attract thousands of bettors each week. In this article, we are going to take a look at some fundamentals when it comes to betting on any football game.

What kind of bet can you make?

The most popular type of sports bet made on football games is the spread bet. Spread bets include an underdog and a favorite, and a certain amount of points a team must win or lose by in order for the bettor to collect. They look like this:

Chicago Bears -10.5 (-150)
New England Patriots (180)

Whether you are betting the money line (which we will get to in a second) or the spread, the team with a negative sign near it is always the favorite. Being the favorite means that the most people are placing bets on this team, which may or may not indicate their chances of winning. So, in the above scenario, the Bears are the favored team (haha!). This spread also indicates the amount of money wagered in order to win. Every bet of $150 on the Bears will collect $100 if the Bears beat the spread. Betting on the Patriots, on the other hand, means that you stand to gain $180 for every $100 that you bet.

The spread is favored in football because it carries an extra element of security. That security is represented by the -10.5 figure. This means that in order for people to collect on wagers placed on the Bears, Chicago must win by at least 11 points. If they only win by 9, those betting on the Patriots will win the bet (which means that underdog bets will still win, even if the underdog team actually loses). That extra .5 of a point is added so that there is no "push", or tie, on the bets.

The second most popular type of sports betting action when it comes to football betting is wagering on the money line. This is your standard bet, where money is placed on one team to win. Money lines are expressed much the same as spreads, but without the points indicator. Generally, money lines cost more money to bet on the favorite in order to win $100 because a victory is easier to predict than a difference in points.

Other types of wagers in football betting:

There are quite a few different types of sports betting wager placed on football games, which can add some spice to your betting life. Over/under bets are placed according to the total amount of points both teams will score in a game. For example, a sports book might place the combined total score of a football game at 55. Bettors would then decide whether they thought the combined score would be over or under that total, and place wagers accordingly.

Futures, totals, squares, and parlays are all also popular in football betting.

How to bet on football games:

Keep in mind, when betting on football, that most sports bettors will win less than 50% of the time. This is because the sports books really know what they are doing, and play with the odds continuously and successfully.

However, a little bit of knowledge can go a long way in helping out one's football betting record. There are services which can be of great assistance to those interested in all manner of sports betting, football betting included. Sports information lines in particular can assist bettors when it comes to finding good value bets and up to date information about the team they might want to bet on.
